Rebuilding the old Knabe Grand – Day 15

Finished reconditioning the action today, and gave it an initial regulation.
Here’s a picture of the regulating Bench:
I normally have it covered with a removable top, but here you see it in it’s working configuration. I specially designed and built this bench so that the top of it can be “warped” and adjusted to match the keybed of any grand piano. It’s a little complicated to explain, but basically, a grand action actually rests inside a piano on three different rails. If I adjust those rails so that they are making proper contact in the piano, when I put the action on this bench I can adjust the bench so that it is the same as the piano. Without the ability to do this, the regulation may have to be altered further once the action is re-placed back into the piano.
